Song of the Day: Farley Jackmaster Funk – Funkin With The Drums Again

When I first start posting classic house tunes, I’d grab what I thought were rare/obscure house tracks – and then see that they had already been posted a dozen times on Youtube. So I stopped looking to see what was and was not posted and just uploaded stuff I liked.
But now I’m seeing that there is a lot of stuff still not on Youtube – someone will upload the ‘main’ or ‘club’ track but not the rest of the songs on the single. But even still, I was shocked to find out yesterday that Youtube is missing ‘Farley Farley’.
Situation remedied.

RnB?

Ok – ‘rock and roll’ can be spelled ‘rock & roll’ and even ‘rock n roll’.
And ‘drum and bass’ is frequently shortened to ‘DNB’ or ‘DnB’.
But I don’t think ‘R&B’ is ever shortened to ‘RnB’ like I did in my last post.
I could go in and edit it but I’d rather just call myself out for that brain fart.

Song of the Day: The House Master Boyz – Thanks 4 The Trax U Lost

Vocoder vocals have been popular in many different types of music – hip hop, RnB, Miami freestyle – so Farley tried to inject some vocoder groove into house music for the first release on his House Records label. The trouble is – I can barely understand anything he is saying!
I can’t think of too many house songs that used vocoder vocals after this which makes this song not just an early classic, but a pretty unique one as well.

Song of the Day: Freestyle – Don’t Stop The Rock

Chicago and Miami definately had totally different things going on musically in the 80s, but we agreed on one thing – this song kicked ass!
